Job Title: Manufacturing Associate ($18.00/hr.)

Job Description

This role supports a high-volume steel manufacturing and stamping operation by removing, inspecting, packaging, and staging steel parts produced from large sheets. You will work in a physically demanding, fast-paced production environment, performing repetitive tasks such as lifting, bending, and stacking while following strict safety and quality standards. Responsibilities

  • Remove finished steel parts from large 5-foot steel sheets using separation tools and a hammer.
  • Inspect steel parts for quality, ensuring there are no sharp tabs, burrs, or defects left from the turret punch press process.
  • Deburr and smooth edges of parts as needed to meet quality and safety standards.
  • Stack finished parts neatly onto skids in preparation for the next production operation.
  • Box parts according to customer specifications, typically 20–25 pieces per box depending on material gauge.
  • Lift and transfer boxed products to pallets throughout the shift, ensuring stable and safe stacking.
  • Handle steel sheets and scrap material, including folding scrap sheets and placing them into designated scrap hoppers.
  • Perform repetitive lifting, bending, twisting, reaching, and stacking activities during packaging and material handling operations.
  • Count parts accurately and ensure correct quantities are packaged and labeled according to requirements.
  • Operate or assist with machine operation related to stamping and turret punch press processes as directed.
  • Use hand tools safely and effectively for separating, banding, and handling steel parts.
  • Unload materials and assist with banding and securing loads as required.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area by following all housekeeping, PPE, and safety requirements.
  • Follow all safety procedures in a loud, heavy industrial environment, including proper use of metatarsal boot covers and other protective equipment.
  • Work closely with the production team to meet daily production goals and support continuous workflow.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers regarding production issues, quality concerns, or safety hazards.
  • Support a culture of safety, quality, and teamwork by following established processes and contributing to a positive work environment.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to consistently lift 40–50 lbs throughout the shift.
  • Comfort working in a loud, heavy industrial stamping press environment.
  • Comfort performing repetitive physical work, including bending, twisting, reaching, and standing for extended periods (standing 8 or more hours per day; walking off and on for 4–6 hours per day).
  • Ability to perform occasional stooping, bending, squatting, reaching overhead, and extending arms.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
  • Ability to count parts accurately and stack them neatly for packaging and staging.
  • Experience using hand tools safely in a production or manufacturing setting.
  • Basic familiarity with machine operation, stamping, unloading, and banding processes.
  • Comfort working around turret punch press and related metal fabrication equipment.
  • Reliable work ethic and ability to follow instructions, safety rules, and standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to wear and use required personal protective equipment, including metatarsal boot covers over steel-toe boots.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in a steel manufacturing, stamping press, or metal fabrication environment.
  • Prior experience in counting, packaging, and palletizing products in a production setting.
  • Exposure to turret punch press operations or similar metalworking machinery.
  • Familiarity with cold-formed steel framing, drywall, or related building products is a plus.
  • Experience working in a unionized production environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, safety-focused culture.

Work Environment

The role is based in a high-volume steel stamping press plant that is very loud and requires consistent use of hearing protection and other PPE. The environment can be hot in the summer and cold in the winter, and the work is physically demanding, involving standing for 8 or more hours per day and walking off and on for 4–6 hours. You will frequently perform bending, twisting, reaching overhead, stooping, squatting, and extending your arms while handling steel sheets, parts, and boxed products. The facility operates multiple shifts, and you will train on first shift (approximately 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.) before moving to an off-shift (second shift 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. or third shift 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.) based on seniority once hired permanently into the union. The shop emphasizes safety and requires metatarsal boot covers over steel-toe boots along with other PPE. The workforce is approximately 120 employees, fostering a close-knit, family-type atmosphere where teamwork, safety, and long-term commitment are highly valued.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.
