We are seeking a Board-Certified Critical Care Nurse Practitioner for a locum tenens opportunity in Suffolk, Virginia. This is an excellent opportunity to provide overnight critical care coverage in a collaborative inpatient ICU environment using Epic EMR.
Position Details
Assignment Schedule: Friday through Tuesday
Shift: 7:00 PM – 8:00 AM (Five 13-hour night shifts)
Call: None
Weekend Requirements: Included as part of the scheduled rotation
Average Patient Census: Approximately 13 patients per shift (range: 1–20)
EMR: Epic
Responsibilities
Admit and manage critically ill adult patients from the Emergency Department, hospital floors, and surrounding referring hospitals.
Provide overnight ICU coverage, monitoring patient status and responding to changes in condition.
Manage ventilated patients in collaboration with Respiratory Therapists.
Perform bedside procedures, including:
Central venous line placement
Arterial line placement
Hemodialysis catheter placement
Assist with the evaluation and stabilization of decompensating patients.
Communicate with patients' families regarding clinical status and goals of care during overnight hours.
Document patient care accurately in Epic and collaborate with the multidisciplinary critical care team to ensure continuity of care.
Qualifications
Board-Certified Nurse Practitioner
Active Virginia Nurse Practitioner license
Active DEA registration
Current BLS certification
Current ACLS certification
Demonstrated experience in adult critical care
Proficiency placing central venous lines, arterial lines, and dialysis catheters
