Job Description:  Compliance Officer

Reports to: Executive Director

Classification: Part-time, exempt

Mission:

The Next Door Recovery provides a continuum of evidence-based substance abuse and mental health services for women in an environment of faith and healing to restore hope and a lifetime of recovery.

Summary:

The Compliance Officer ensures that The Next Door Recovery operates in full compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, licensing requirements, and accreditation standards. This role will also uphold the organization’s ethical principles in all areas of compliance, risk management, and quality improvement.

The Compliance Officer will develop, implement, and monitor policies and procedures that promote integrity, accountability, and excellence in service delivery to our clients.

Job Responsibilities

 Primary Responsibilities include the following:

• Fulfill the role of Compliance Officer, guaranteeing adherence to all relevant federal, state, industry regulations and ethical standards.
• Develop, implement, and manage compliance programs, policies, and procedures for all sites and programs of The Next Door Recovery, Inc.
• Collaborate with all directors to ensure CARF standards and State Licensure standards are consistently met.  Including applying for annual renewals for each license and accreditation.
• Ensure all Performance Improvement plans, annual plans, and monthly plans are complete and maintained throughout each year.   (Ex. Strategic plan, Succession plan, Cultural Competency and Diversity plan, Risk Management plan, Technology plan, and Accessibility plan)
• Identify, assess, and mitigate organizational risks related to service delivery, client safety, and legal compliance.
• Monitor adherence to clinical documentation and billing policies.
• Review, track, and appropriately report on all grievances and incident reports that take place within the organization.
• Notify staff of impending audits and oversee preparatory work for outside agency auditors reviewing contracts, licensure standards, correctional accreditation, rehabilitation and/or other facility inspections.  Attend and assist outside agency auditors in compliance reviews.
• Receive, review, and provide information to the Executive Leadership Team of all audit reports.
• Act as the Privacy Officer, overseeing comprehensive data privacy and security measures.
• Collaborate with organizational leadership and the Board to address compliance matters and lead investigations.
• Collect, analyze, and present data derived from client experience surveys to drive continuous improvement.
• Implement and carry-out a program of compliance with the Title VI Civil Right Act of 1964.  Ensure that all staff are trained regarding VI and the procedures regarding the grievance process. Act as the Title VI representative.
• Lead the Cultural Competency and Awareness committee to develop and implement initiatives fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace.
• Provide educational updates to all relevant staff and the leadership of TNDR.
• Conduct or direct the internal investigation of compliance issues for all sites and services to include client records, billing records and facilities.
• Submit corrective action plans and coordinate with the outside agency staff on the approval process.
• Collaborate with human resources department to ensure the implementation of consistent disciplinary action strategies in cases of compliance standard violations.
• Oversee internal reporting systems such as compliance hotlines and inform employees about these systems.
• Represent The Next Door Recovery, Inc. at regional, statewide and national events as requested.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher required, preferably in a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in management and experience in compliance, quality assurance, or regulatory affairs—preferably in behavioral health, addiction treatment, or healthcare settings.
• In-depth understanding of healthcare and addiction treatment regulations (HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, OSHA, CARF)
• Experience with process and/or quality improvement initiatives preferred.
• Must possess strong oral and written communication skills, planning skills, and problem-solving skills.
• Able to lead organization through change management processes.
• Strong computer skills with competency in Microsoft Word and excel required.
• Familiarity with electronic medical records systems preferred.
• Industry and content expertise in integrated billing compliance, regulatory affairs, privacy/security, audit, and business/physician transaction regulatory compliance preferred.
• Must exhibit high levels of integrity, professionalism, trustworthiness, team orientation, and motivation.
• Valid Driver’s License

Benefits

As a part-time employee you are not eligible for all TNDR benefits; however, you may participate in the 401K retirement plan after a 6-month waiting period (with free financial advisor assistance as desired).
